What happens when life invades your writing time?

Once you have handled the emergency, indulged in a distraction, or pulled yourself away from whatever has taken up your time, turn your focus back to yourself. Take some additional time for self-care. Be gentle, make sure your self-talk is kind and supportive. No sense feeling guilty or beating yourself up, it happens to all of us more often than not. Don't waste valuable energy worrying about what you haven't done or how far behind you are in reaching your weekly writing totals. Simply focus on what the next step could be, even if it is a little tiny baby step, find the courage to take it. If you are finding it hard to settle down and write again try reading about writing, or do some writing exercises, outline your next chapter, or do a detailed character analysis, whatever you decide is the right next step for you. Sometimes taking a walk, baking, catching up on your mending, or painting a wall in your house, any simple task that allows your mind to run wild can stimulate your creative juices. Nurture your muse, you'll be back to writing in no time.
